“Ruth Greenstein is a superb editor. As a result of her fine and careful work, all of the book projects I’ve given her have not only received excellent reviews, but have also been nominees and winners of major awards and prizes. When anyone asks me to recommend a great editor for fiction, nonfiction, memoir, or even poetry, Ruth’s name is always at the very top of my list.”

Among the bestselling and award-winning authors she has worked with are Anita Shreve, Erica Jong, John Ashbery, and Dennis Lehane. Her writing credits include contributions to The First-Book Market: Where and How to Publish Your First Book and Make It a Success (Macmillan), The World's Greatest Buildings: Masterpieces of Architecture and Engineering (Time-Life Books), and The New York Public Library Literature Companion (Simon & Schuster).

“I have had the great fortune to be mentored by some of the best in the arts, letters, and publishing,” says Greenstein. “They took this naïve Brooklyn/San Diego gal, gave me extraordinary opportunities, wise counsel, and models of excellence, and helped shape me into a true New York editor. I am ever grateful to: Helène Aylon, Marshall Blonsky, Grace Budd, Dan Halpern, Kai Keya, Helen Marx, Daphne Merkin, Rubin Pfeffer, Jonathan Rabinowitz, John Radziewicz, Cork Smith, Leslie Stoker, Claire Wachtel, and Drenka Willen. Think where man’s glory most begins and ends / And say my glory was I had such friends.” [W. B. Yeats]

Ruth Greenstein was educated at the University of California, Berkeley; the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania; and Deutsches Haus at NYU. Music, poetry, and people are among her passions, along with the nature of California, the culture of New York, the streets of Berlin, and the smell of new books.
